ST-4.3 Electric and Hybrid-Electric Vehicles

There are 75 electric and diesel-powered hybrid buses in 2010 to help the Greater Taipei area address pollution.

Introducing Taipei’s first electric and diesel-powered bus in 2009, Taipei Mayor Hau said the buses were 35 percent to 50 percent more energy efficient as they are powered by electricity when traveling below 20kph to 25kph and by diesel at speeds above 25kph.

Eaton has delivered  75 hybrid-powered city buses in Taipei, Taiwan, together with Master Transportation Bus Manufacturing and Capital Bus Group, which will operate in normal passenger transit duty in Taipei and are expected to generate fuel savings of 25 to 30% along with similar reductions in particulate and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Taipei City’s Capital Bus Company will operate 60 of the hybrid buses and the Taipei Bus Company will run the remaining 15.
