Project Description:
The ARENA-funded “Electrify 2515” Community Pilot (launched Aug 2024) is demonstrating large-scale household electrification. Led by Brighte (a consumer energy platform) with Rewiring Australia and utility Endeavour Energy, the project retrofits 500 homes in postcode 2515 with efficient electric appliances, home batteries, and Home Energy Management Systems. The goal is to collect detailed data on electricity use and grid performance under intensive electrification. Endeavour Energy will monitor the local distribution network to understand how widespread adoption of heat pumps, induction cooktops and battery storage affects voltage, load and required upgrades. Brighte’s platform connects consumers to low-interest financing and incentives, while Rewiring Australia handles research and customer engagement. Key outcomes include evaluating consumer uptake of smart electrification, demonstrating HEMS integration, and quantifying impacts on the network. The project will also explore new business models such as virtual power plants. By documenting the technical feasibility, consumer behavior and regulatory challenges of household electrification, Electrify 2515 provides replicable lessons to accelerate Australia’s transition to all-electric homes.
