A comprehensive initiative to transform the Temburong district into a sustainable eco-town by integrating renewable energy, green building technologies, and smart infrastructure while preserving its 75% forest cover.

Description of Town

Type of Town:

    ☐ Urban (Central Business District)

☐ Urban (Mainly consists of commercial area)

☐ Urban (Mainly consists of residential area)

    ☒ Village (village)

    ☐ Village (island)

    ☒ Others

Coverage rate of population with access to tap water: Approximately 95–100% (district-level access supported by national utilities)

Coverage rate of population with access to gas: Low; development strategy promotes electrification and renewable energy

Power plant capacity: Small-scale distributed renewable energy systems (planned)

Specific power plant type: Solar photovoltaic generation and hybrid renewable systems

Number of public transportation vehicles per 10,000 population:

Limited public transport; eco-mobility systems are under development.

Popularization rate of telephone, including mobile telephone Over 100 sets per 100 persons

Per capita area of paved roads Moderate rural road infrastructure

Per capita area of public green space Very high; Temburong is largely covered by rainforest and protected natural areas.

Climate conditions: Tropical, humid, rainy, and warm climate

Expected Future Development

Expected demographic changes: Moderate population growth supported by eco-tourism, green industries, and sustainable residential development.

Expected industrial/economic changes: Growth in eco-tourism, green technology services, renewable energy, and environmental conservation industries.

Other expected development: Expansion of renewable energy infrastructure, smart utilities, sustainable transport systems, and eco-friendly community facilities.

Town Policy, Vision or Objective

What is the policy, vision, or objective of the town?

The project aims to develop Temburong as a national demonstration low-carbon eco-town aligned with Brunei Vision 2035. The initiative focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing environmental sustainability, supporting green economic diversification, and improving quality of life.

Brief outline of the low carbon town development plan:

The Temburong Eco Town integrates renewable energy deployment, eco-friendly infrastructure development, sustainable mobility, smart utility systems, and biodiversity conservation. The development emphasizes low-impact urban design and promotes sustainable tourism while protecting the district’s natural rainforest ecosystems.
