“Print 30”: Integrated Smart Low-Energy Buildings and Low-Carbon Manufacturing — A Scalable and Replicable SME Model for Industrial Decarbonization

Project Description:

Guided by the vision of “Print 30: Printing the Future 30 Years Ahead,” NTI Printing has developed Chinese Taipei’s first smart packaging printing facility to achieve dual green building certifications: U.S. LEED Gold and Chinese Taipei EEWH Diamond. Beyond certification, the project has been honored with Chinese Taipei’s Green Building Award and designated as a Green Building Education Demonstration Site, underscoring its leadership in advancing low-carbon buildings and sustainability education.

At its core, the project transforms traditional energy-intensive printing into a low-carbon manufacturing model anchored in smart green building infrastructure. This is achieved through the integration of passive design strategies—such as daylight utilization and high-performance building envelopes—with high-efficiency active systems, including maglev variable-frequency HVAC and a Smart Energy Management System (EMS). Together, these approaches significantly reduce both building-level and operational energy consumption, aligning with the principles of Low Energy Buildings.

Building on this foundation, NTI Printing has established a structured ESG framework known as the “Six Key Low-Carbon ESG Practices,” integrating energy, operations, and sustainability into a unified system:

1. Adoption of carbon-neutral printing machine with LED UV technology to enhance energy efficiency.

2. Implementation of automated smart warehousing systems (AS/RS + AGV) to optimize logistics performance.

3. Deployment of high-efficiency HVAC and resource circulation systems, achieving ~30% energy savings and 95% process water recycling.

4. Installation of a 591.26 kWp rooftop solar PV system for on-site renewable energy generation.

5. Progressive increase in renewable electricity usage, targeting RE60 by 2030.

6. Integration of ESG initiatives into core business operations to expand social and environmental impact.

As a result of these integrated efforts, NTI Printing was awarded Chinese Taipei’s National Sustainable Development Award. The company was also invited to participate in the 2026 Net Zero City Expo, where it showcased its Low Energy Building strategies and low-carbon transformation practices in the National Policy and Achievement Pavilion, demonstrating alignment with national and international sustainability agendas.

This case highlights how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can leverage green building design, smart energy management, and process optimization to achieve both environmental sustainability and enhanced competitiveness. More importantly, it provides a scalable and replicable model for low-carbon industrial transformation, offering practical insights for APEC economies advancing Low Energy Building development.

This project establishes a four-layer low-carbon operational framework—energy efficiency, smart optimization, renewable energy, and green electricity procurement—to deliver measurable, scalable, and replicable decarbonization outcomes aligned with APEC Low Energy Building objectives.

In terms of Energy Efficiency:

A maglev variable-frequency HVAC system replaces conventional systems, achieving annual savings of approximately 378,000 kWh (30–42% reduction). Industrial energy-efficient fans and elevator regeneration systems contribute an additional 120,000 kWh and 50,000 kWh, resulting in total equipment savings of 548,000 kWh per year.

In terms of Smart Optimization:

A Smart Energy Management System (EMS) enables real-time monitoring and data-driven optimization, improving overall electricity efficiency by 20–30% while enhancing operational transparency.

In terms of Renewable Energy:

A 591.26 kWp rooftop solar PV system generates approximately 720,000–800,000 kWh annually, primarily for on-site consumption.

In terms of Green Electricity Procurement:

Through SME Green Power Program (T-REC) in Chinese Taipei, the company procures approximately 165,000 kWh of renewable electricity annually, accelerating its transition toward the RE60 target by 2030.

Overall, this project goes beyond conventional energy-saving measures by integrating energy transition strategies into building and operational systems. It provides a scalable and replicable model for low-carbon industrial transformation, aligned with APEC’s Low Energy Building initiatives.
