SB-1.2 Low Energy Building Demonstration Projects

Headquarters of Suruhanjaya Tenaga, Putrajaya (Diamond Building)

The Headquarters of Suruhanjaya Tenaga (the Diamond Building) is designed to showcase technologies that will reduce the building energy consumption & potable water usage, promote sustainable building material usages and at the same time provide an enhanced indoor environmental quality.

The building is a unique model that employs energy efficient and sustainable building technology for hot-humid climates. A holistic approach to building envelope/atrium design, the mechanical and electrical system, daylight access, landscaping, and material selection has enabled the design of this environmentally responsible corporate headquarters.

The Diamond Building was designed and built as a sustainable building, taking the following aspects into consideration:

  1. reduction in fossil fuels
  2. water conservation
  3. sustainable building materials
  4. waste minimisation and avoidance
  5. indoor environmental quality
  6. traffic and transport management
  7. construction and demolition management plan

It is targeted to reduce energy usage by 65%, with an energy index of 85 kWh/m2 per year at 2,800 hours usage, as compared to a normal office building which has an energy index of 250 kWh/m2 per year.
